THE PAST IS MORE UNCERTAIN THAT THE FUTURE
INSTALLATION, 2019
The past is more uncertain than the future portrays objects found in the house of peasants in the region of Karelia (Russia), almost like children's toys, which are like finds with politica and historical resonances. For Russia particularly, politcal changes (Tsarism, Comunism and Capitalism) brought about a profound crisis in collective and individual identity.
The Russian proverb "the past is more uncertain than the future" refers to a sense of unease produced when historical facts are subverted from above as a form of excercising control. Carelia, internacional con momnumento (2019) is an intuitively constructed film based on poetic impressions in which historical memory is created using archive images, views of nature, family scenes and inquisitorial testimonies.
